Public health

The deep current of change caused by digitalisation affects many different areas and stages of life, encompassing all levels of society, and thus very continuously influences social changes. Digitalisation is more than just the introduction of a technology; it is a transformation process that runs simultaneously, partly interlinked with other megatrends such as health and demographic change.

However, developing, implementing and evaluating digital health and care-related applications still presents key challenges. These include the requirements in developing participatory and user-oriented technology; evidence-based research into health and care-related endpoints (with regard to indications, applications and user groups); a lack of theoretical foundation for the relevant research and development projects; and insufficient consideration of the social effects of digital technologies (e.g. participation, social inequality). Against this backdrop, the cross-sectional area “Public health” at the Bavarian Research Center for Digital Health and Social Care adopts a population and system-related perspective on questions of digitalisation in (at-home) care as well as preventive measures against care dependency. Methods and concepts of intervention research, health services research and policy research will be used for this purpose.
