From vehicles to machine tools, from creative ideas right through to production – as a mechanical engineer, you shape the development of groundbreaking technologies from the design stage to putting them into use. By the time you graduate, you will be exceptionally trained for injecting a wide range of findings and methods in mechanical engineering into your future fields of work. Throughout your studies, we support you with tutorials, small learning groups, special programmes for students and intensive mentoring for internships and bachelor theses. We offer a preliminary maths course especially for students in the first semester of technical bachelor’s degree programmes.

Details about this course

The modules taught during the foundation course (semesters 1 and 2) familiarise you with the fundamental technical and scientific principles.

The advanced course (3rd to 7th semester) include a practical semester (5th semester). During the 3rd and 4th semester, you will learn further core skills in mechanical engineering, before move on to very practically focused and advanced modules in the 6th and 7th semester.

You can choose from our extensive catalogue of compulsory elective modules to expand your knowledge in the direction you wish. Your bachelor’s thesis then rounds off your studies. You can work on either a task set by the university or a topic that’s currently relevant in a particular company, which will help you forge useful contacts with a potential future employer.

During the practical semester (5th), you will learn the ropes of professional engineering by tackling practical tasks. The spectrum of activities ranges from development and design through to sales and consultancy.

Upon successfully completing the programme, the university of applied sciences will award you the academic degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) .

  1. studies with in-depth practical experience practical and flexible! In the study programme with in-depth practice, a regular Bachelor's programme at the university is combined with intensive practical phases at the practice partner, based on the study content. Students can enter this dual study option up to the 4th semester. 
  2. combined studies a practical combination of study and work! With a combined study programme, you can acquire a fully recognised vocational qualification within your Bachelor's degree. This double qualification is particularly attractive for many companies!

Mechanical engineering and vehicle construction are Germany’s biggest sectors with the greatest exports. The key areas of employment for mechanical engineers include vehicle engineering, powered mechanical equipment, energy supply and production engineering. Examples of further career fields:
