Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Augsburg Student Union (Details can also be found in this flyer)
The federal government runs a an education loan programme that offers e.g. students at an advanced point in their training a opportunity to take out a straightforward, low-interest loan that is flexible enough to meet their specific requirements and is not means-tested.
In contrast to BAföG funding, this education loan is not dependent upon your income and assets, nor that of your parents, spouse or partner.
Loans are managed by the Federal Administration Office (Bundesverwaltungsamt – BVA) in Cologne.
International University Fund
This scheme run by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and the Arts is intended to further the process of internationalisation at Bavarian universities of applied science. It provides bursaries for students – selected by the universities themselves based on the relevant guidelines for awards – to promote international exchange between highly qualified young people. The aim is to encourage intercultural connections that foster mutual understanding, intensify specialist collaboration and thus cultivate Bavaria’s global network in the fields of teaching, research and culture.
This bursary scheme is directed at students with limited financial means, enabling them to undertake internships or study abroad. This scheme doesn’t cover specialist courses (e.g. summer schools) or language courses.

PROMOS

Further funding programmes, third-party benefactors
The extremely wide range of sources for funding (e.g. foundations, organisations) makes it rather difficult and time-consuming to uncover them all. In any case, you are going to need plenty of initiative and patience for scouring the internet. Some organisations that help arrange semesters abroad also run their own funding schemes. We have pooled some useful contacts under Bursaries.
And keep checking for fresh posts under News. We regularly publish information about third-party funding there.
Collaboration agreements between universities often have the advantage that partner universities waive their tuition fees for exchange students.
However, if an imbalance exists between incoming and outgoing students, you might well find that fees are charged nonetheless, but perhaps at a reduced rate.
Erasmus+ students will certainly not be expected to pay tuition fees.
You will find details of tuition fees in the info sheet for your intended partner universities.
