Key info at a glance

To help you meet important deadlines and locate the forms you might need, we have pooled all the key information about re-enrolment, leave of absence and withdrawing from university (“exmatriculation”) and posted some useful links on this page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, please contact Academic Registry. However, we would ask you to read through the information provided here to start with.

Re-enrolment

Do you wish to continue studying next semester at Kempten University of Applied Sciences? Then please ensure that you re-enrol promptly during the specified re-enrolment period . You must also re-enrol on time for the coming semester if you are working on your final thesis this semester and/or awaiting corrections. It’s imperative that your re-enrol for the next semester in this case.

If it turns out during the following semester that you are deemed to have completed your studies (even retrospectively) during the previous one, this would void the need to have re-enrolled. In this case, the superfluous semester fee would be refunded to you within 8–10 days of us being notified, which you can do very easily online. Detailed instructions can be found in MeinCampus.

Scenario 1:
If the deadline for submitting your thesis is 17 August, and you can’t be certain that your mentor can finish your corrections by 30 September, then it’s vital that you re-enrol.
If you are retrospectively deemed to have successfully completed your studies during the previous semester (despite re-enrolling for the next one), you can also be given back the excess fee if you apply for a refund.

Scenario 2:
If you registered your final thesis on 20 February, with a submission deadline of 20 April, and you will need that entire period to produce your thesis, then you must re-enrol for the following semester.

The same applies in both cases:
If you don’t re-enrol (despite a reminder), you will be expelled from Kempten University of Applied Sciences without graduating.

For this reason we advise:
It’s better to re-enrol for an extra semester than risk being expelled without a degree!

If you re-enrol, you will have to pay the semester fee costing 102 euros from Winter Semester 23/24. To do so, please authorise a one-off direct debit payment to us by the end of the re-enrolment period (by 1 March for the summer semester or 1 September for the winter semester) in MeinCampus. Detailed instructions in English on how to pay the semester fee can be found here. (Or you can download our quick guide right here .

Semester fee

On behalf of Augsburg Student Union, the university collects a semester fee costing € 72 from Winter Semester 23/24. The entire sum is passed on to Augsburg Student Union so that it can fulfil its remit (advisory service re. BAföG, subsidising canteens, investing in the construction of student halls of residence, etc.). Kempten UAS only handles this fee, as it doesn’t keep any of that money for itself.

In addition, in response to students’ wishes, Winter Semester 2014/15 saw the launch of the semester ticket. The semester ticket costs an additional € 30 for a public transport pass per semester .

The amount that students are required to pay each semester is therefore € 102 in total. You can find detailed instructions on paying this sum in MeinCampus .

On September 1, the Bavarian state government decided to introduce a €29 ticket for public transportation for students as well. The Bavarian discount ticket will be valid from the winter semester 2023/24. Those who have already paid for a regional semester ticket with their semester contribution can even have this credited to the €29 price. The sales partner responsible for Kempten University is mona. On the associated website you can see the further procedure for purchasing the ticket.

Further information on this additional offer can also be found here.

Refunds

Once you have paid the semester fee, it can generally only be refunded if:

  • You officially withdraw from university before the start of the forthcoming semester, or
  • the university expels you (exmatriculation).

The deadline for re-enrolment is: 30 September for a winter semester or 14 March for a summer semester. Once a semester has started, the university can no longer issue a refund.

The only exception is if you officially withdraw from university within one month of the start of the semester, at the latest (winter semester: 31 Oct / summer semester 14 March). In this case, you will be refunded the semester fee in full. Detailed instructions can be found in MeinCampus – right here.

Help and questions

If you have any questions about the information provided on this page concerning the semester fee or refunds, of if you need any help, please get in touch with Academic Registry.

Leave of absence

You can apply to take leave of absence for up to two semesters in total, as a rule. Any periods spent on maternity leave or for childcare are counted separately from this. Main grounds for leave include:

  • Illness
  • Spending time abroad (including university collaboration agreements)
  • Military or civilian service
  • Employment
  • Pregnancy or childcare
  • Voluntary internship in Germany
  • Other reasons

Leave of absence to prepare for one or more examination(s) is no longer an option, as this is currently deemed unsuitable grounds for leave according to the specifications outlined in the Bavarian Higher Education Act.
Simply apply for leave of absence via MeinCampus by the last day before the start of the new semester. Click here for detailed instructions on the process. Leave of absence cannot be granted retrospectively for semesters that have already been completed. During leave of absence, your rights and duties as a student – except for the obligation to study ordinarily – remain unaffected. Whilst on leave of absence, you cannot undertake any first attempts at coursework or examinations (except during maternity or parental leave), whereas repeat attempts at any failed examinations must be made.

Please note: Deadlines for making repeat attempts at examinations are not extended!

Exmatriculation

You will automatically be exmatriculated officially at the end of the semester in which you are deemed to have successfully passed all the examinations required for your bachelor’s or master’s degree.

You can also apply to withdraw from university (“exmatriculation”) if you so wish. Simply complete and submit the relevant application form online via MeinCampus. A detailed guide to the process can be found here. Exmatriculation will regrettably also be triggered if the examinations required on a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme are not passed in due course, or if a student fails to re-enrol for the coming semester.

Exmatriculation terminates membership of Kempten University of Applied Sciences.
