Nach meinem Physikstudium konnte ich mich 2005 in meiner Abschlussarbeit über Phasenübergänge von quantenmechanischen Spins auf 2D-Gittern mit Computer-Simulationen beschäftigen. Die computergestützte Datenanalyse zog sich fortan durch meine berufliche und wissenschaftliche Laufbahn. Meine Promotion an der ETH Zürich (Schweiz) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Instut für Schnee- und Lawinenforschung (SLF) über mikro-physikalische Vorgänge in natürlichem Schnee stützte sich wesentlich auf die Röntgen-Computertomographie; automatisierte 3D-Bildverarbeitung war dabei der Schlüssel für die Auswertung der riesigen Datenmengen. Ab 2010 konnte ich am Paul-Scherrer-Institut (Schweiz) am Elektronen-Synchrotron an einem neuartigen Phasen-Kontrast Röntgenverfahren mitforschen, welches vielleicht bald die medizinische Diagnostik von Tumoren verbessert.

 

Heute engagiere ich mich in der Forschung und in der Lehre am liebsten dort, wo Physik, Mathematik, Informatik und Maschinenbau zusammentreffen:   Computer Vision.
