PsyGames 2026 – Psychology via Games

PsyGames is an academic conference organised by Kempten University of Applied Sciences on computer games as a research tool in psychology. 

It is the first conference in the German-speaking world to systematically examine psychological research using custom-designed computer games.

We invite researchers and experts to submit contributions (abstracts and full papers). All contributions will be anonymously reviewed in a double-blind peer-review process by an independent, external programme committee; members of Kempten University of Applied Sciences will not be involved in the evaluation of their own contributions.

Call for Papers

Submissions may be in German or English. The conference proceedings will be published in both languages; translations will be AI-assisted, with the authors responsible for the final review.

  • Computer games as a research tool in psychology
  • Empirical game studies in basic psychological research
  • Games in psychological diagnosis, therapy and intervention

Please mind: Topics such as the psychology of game design will not be considered in order to maintain a clear scientific focus.


Objectives & Target Audiences

Objective: The conference aims to advance psychological research through the use of computer-based games and to provide a platform for publication and networking.

Target audiences: In particular, psychologists and researchers from related disciplines. Furthermore, PsyGames is aimed at individuals with an academic  interest in game studies, including students, lecturers and researchers.

Participation & Costs

The event is non-commercial; participation is free of charge. Accommodation and travel costs cannot be covered. Accommodation recommendations will be provided for international guests.


Proceedings

The proceedings will be published in two languages (German/English). Translations are AI-assisted; final approval rests with the authors. Links to the conference proceedings will be added as soon as they are available.
