AdA Certificate / Trainer Aptitude Test

Students enrolled at Kempten University of Applied Sciences benefit from an agreement with the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (“IHK”) that provides the opportunity to acquire an AdA certificate . AdA is the German abbreviation for training trainers (“Ausbildung der Ausbilder”), which is synonymous with the Ordinance on Trainer Aptitude (“AEVO”) – the nationally recognised, standardised qualification in professional and vocational education .

You need to have passed this examination in order to act as a trainer in companies practising skilled trades. After all, besides personal and professional aptitude, anyone wishing to train other people requires pedagogical, legal, organisational, psychological and methodical knowledge and skills.

You can acquire these skills and knowledge by taking the chargeable course at Kempten University of Applied Sciences.

During the AdA course, you will learn the professional and vocational educational knowledge stipulated in the Ordinance on Trainer Aptitude (“AEVO”) – in the following four fields of action:

  • Assessing training requirements and planning training
  • Preparing training and playing a part in appointing trainees
  • Conducting training
  • Completing training.

Next course: Winter Semester 2025/26

The next course will run during Winter Semester 2025/26.

The AdA course lasts four days, split into two blocks (Friday + Saturday each time). During the enrolment process (see below), you can choose which dates and group you prefer. Attendance is compulsory for at least 80% of the time!

You must attend all the classes scheduled for your group! In other words, you can’t pick & mix classes from the different sets! There would need to be exceptional, substantiated circumstances for swapping just a single date – and, even then, only if the subject matter for the day/group in question is suitable, and the request is made with plenty of notice to the Centre for General Elective Studies and Languages (contact details to the right).

However, during the enrolment process in MeinCampus (see below), you can tick more than one group and indicate your preference in terms of priority.

Day 1: Friday 17 October, 8 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. / Day 2: Saturday 18 October 2025, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Day 3: Friday 7 November, 8 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. / Day 4: Saturday 8 November 2025, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Venues

The very earliest that we are generally able to book the rooms for these classes is during the second week of the semester. Sometimes the room number will only be confirmed at very short notice. In any case, we will enter the rooms into MeinCampus as soon as we know, which you will then be able to see. Please check for the room number yourself prior to the date for your class.
We kindly ask you to refrain from asking for room numbers any earlier than the day before the class!

Information for participants

Eligibility

You must be a student enrolled at Kempten University of Applied Sciences to take the AdA course.

Commitment to attend

By signing up to the AdA course (via MeinCampus; see below), you agree to the conditions for taking part, and commit to attending. This includes committing to pay the course fee  (details below). It is only possible, as a matter of principle, to withdraw from the course until the end of the second round of enrolments.

Fees, additional costs

Information about the fee for this course is provided below.
All participants are given the “Training & Career” booklet (“Ausbildung & Beruf” – in German) at no additional cost (which can also be used as an aid in the written examination). An additional charge of approx. € 10 can be made for your own printed copies of course material (not included in the course fee).

Minimum number of participants

Courses can only be held if enough participants sign up. Thus, the university reserves the right to cancel a group if the minimum number of participants is not reached.
If a group already has to be cancelled following the first round of enrolments, then the students affected can sign up for an alternative group during round two.
Similarly, if a group is over-subscribed during the first round of enrolments, then students who were not allocated a place can sign up for an alternative group with free spaces during round two.

Timetable clashes

Should (substantiated) rescheduling of classes on your degree programme cause clashes with the AdA course, please contact us immediately to discuss the matter.

Attendance is obligatory (minimum 80 %).

Enrol for the AdA course in MeinCampus

You can only sign up for the AdA course during the enrolment period for General Elective modules, via Mein Campus(Classes – Show Course Catalogue – Centre for General Elective Studies and Languages – Additional Courses – Professional and Vocational Education).

First enrolment round:

  • 8 a.m. on 1 October 2025 – 4 p.m. on 5 October 2025

Second enrolment round:

  • 8 a.m. on 8 October 2025 – 4 p.m. on 9 October 2025

You can find instructions for the enrolment process in MeinCampusDoku. (Section on Enrolling via the Course Catalogue; please scroll to the bottom of the page.)

During the enrolment period, places are allocated according to students’ progress with studies – in any cases where this is equal, a lottery will be conducted. The chronological order of enrolments doesn’t play a role.

If you encounter any difficulties enrolling during the allocated period, please get in touch with us immediately (contact details to the right). Objections can no longer be considered after the enrolment period has ended.

Examination

Date

The exam generally takes place in advance of the official examinations period (for the winter semester early-mid January; summer semester mid-late June), which will be announced in good time during the course.

Registering for the exam

You do NOT need to register for the exam! (i.e. using the regular registration process in MeinCampus during the set period)

You will be automatically admitted to the exam if you have attended at least 80% of the classes and paid the course fee on time. Further details about the exam can be found in the Moodle classroom.

Examination results

All students will be informed of their exam result by email approx. 3 weeks after the event. We will then let you know how to obtain your AdA certificate, and the process for submitting it to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (“IHK”).

Certificate for the IHK

Once you have passed the examination, we will issue a certificate that you can present to the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (“IHK Schwaben”). This certificate confirms that you have successfully acquired professional and vocational educational skills that meet the requirements stipulated in the Ordinance on Trainer Aptitude (“AEVO”) and passed the final examination, working on tasks relating to situations that occur in a trainer’s fields of activity.

Along with the result of your exam (see above), we will let you know how to collect your certificate and the process that you then need to complete (presentation to the IHK).

You can present this certificate to the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (“IHK Schwaben”), and upon payment of their fee of € 50, they will issue their official certificate (§ 6, para. 3 EVOgW + 7AEVOgW). This testifies to the parity of the university’s examination with that conducted by the IHK itself.

Please note that the AdA course cannot be included in the university certificate of your formal academic record, not even as a voluntary elective subject.
