The Faculty of Tourism Management – more than (just) studying tourism

individual.international.innovative

Welcome to the Faculty of Tourism Management! Where the team of 14 professors offers our cohort of nearly 600 students a whole world of study options in two bachelor’s and one master’s degree programme.

Our B.A. in Tourism Management delivers the knowledge required by managers in classic tourism companies; while the B.A. in Future Tourism: Innovation, Transformation and Sustainable Development prepares students to understand the global changes and social trends in leisure and tourism, and to translate them into innovative, sustainable business. The M.A. in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership rounds off our range of degree programmes by sharpening fine skills in leadership and innovation management – bringing you closer to your goal of leading and innovating in your own company.

On all three programmes, we take great care to provide you with scientifically sound and practically validated training – always oriented towards current developments and encompassing cutting-edge research. You will get the chance to develop and grow personally, as well. Opportunities abound to study in all directions – including classes conducted in English, internships at home and abroad, practical projects with our Research Institute for Sustainable and Innovative Tourism Development (INIT), and a semester abroad at one of our 50 international partner universities.

So you really do study more than tourism in our faculty!

  • Welcome to the Faculty of Tourism Management!

With around 600 students, we are the smallest faculty at Kempten University of Applied Sciences – but that’s exactly what makes studying with us more personal, in almost a family atmosphere. You are much more here than just a name and number on the register.

Studying on our degree programmes is practical and innovative – and you select the subjects that you want to explore in greater depth from a variety of elective options. To round off your training, you can choose from a wide range of foreign languages, personal development coaching and intercultural exchange with around 50 partner universities all over the world.

So if you’re looking for a broadly based degree programme in a congenial faculty, then you’re certainly in the right place! And what setting could be better than the heart of Germany’s Allgäu, one of the most thriving and beautiful holiday and leisure regions in the Alps?

    - Professor Guido Sommer (Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Management)
  • “I really like the friendly atmosphere. The professors and lecturers are always happy to answer any questions, and the faculty staff are very helpful. I also immensely appreciate the close relation to practice, and the latest topics are always covered in lectures.”

    - Lisa (Student )
  • “What I like most about studying at Kempten University of Applied Sciences is the wide range of options for advanced courses on this degree programme and how closely the subject matter relates to practice.”

    - Franziska (Student )
  • “Around our pleasant university campus, classmates become friends and lectures are a real experience.”

    - Lisa (Student)

Which aspects of your degree programme have you been able to put to particularly good use in setting up your own business?
“There are a couple of things in different areas. Of course, you can’t put the entire theoretical knowledge perfectly into practice, but some aspects really have helped me, including customer and quality management, but also elements of international hospitality management. And, I have to admit, also controlling, although I didn’t really understand it yet as a student. In fact, I’ve retained a few relevant bits and pieces from almost every part of the programme, which I like to keep using even now. In particular, my bachelor’s thesis / practical research project was also very useful, as it already got me writing a business plan.”
