Tourism is a major worldwide sector of industry that is constantly changing. On the degree programme in Future Tourism, you will learn about the latest developments in tourism. To round off the package, we also teach languages and offer courses on intercultural communication and mediation.

The degree programme is divided into the foundation course (semesters 1 to 3), the advanced course (semesters 4 to 7) and the practical semester (semester 4 or 5).
The foundation course (semesters 1 to 3) is designed to introduce you to the various topics that will be covered. You will learn the basic principles of business administration (incl. marketing, law and economics), acquire interdisciplinary skills (e.g. presentation techniques), and get a solid training in two foreign languages. At the same time, you will get into the tourism mindset, understand and steer tourism as a system, and learn to target sustainability.
On the advanced course (semesters 4 to 7), you will learn about core and advanced aspects of innovation, transformation and sustainable development in tourism – divided into three theoretical and one practical semester of study.
Alongside the compulsory modules, you can tailor your choice of additional compulsory electives (= flexi-modules) and two specialist modules to hone the skills that you really want to focus on. Potential specialist modules include:
- Sustainability & climate change management
- Innovation and business design in tourism (in English)
- Designing living spaces in alpine regions
- Tourism and technology (in English)
We recommend that you select your majors with a view to the practical semester and your career aspirations.
During the practical semester (4th or 5th), you will spend 18 weeks in a company either in Germany or abroad and two weeks attending practically focused classes on campus. However, appropriate vocational training or at least 12 months’ relevant work experience in the industry can be counted instead.
To round off your degree, you then write your bachelor’s thesis . Upon successfully completing the programme, the university of applied sciences will award you the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).

The degree programme in Future Tourism includes a semester of practice-based study aimed at giving you direct insights into the areas you intend to work in later on. The subject matter covered concerns more exacting tasks and working on demanding projects.
Semesters 4 or 5 are earmarked for the practical semester.
If you have already completed vocational training or at least one year of uninterrupted, relevant work experience in a field related to the degree programme, it is possible to proceed without an internship.
