Details about this course

Your studies are divided into the foundation course (semesters 1 to 3), the advanced course (semesters 4 to 7) and the practical semester (semester 4 or 5), rounded off with your bachelor’s thesis.

The foundation course (semesters 1 to 3) focuses on introducing students to the concept of tourism, teaching them language skills and familiarising them with core aspects of business. You will also learn about legal, economic and intercultural considerations and be taught key presentation techniques. There’s also an introduction to the digital economy to get you up and running in the sphere of digitalisation.

During the advanced course (semesters 4 to 7), you will learn about core and advanced subjects in tourism management, divided into three theoretical and one practical semesters of study.

Alongside the compulsory subjects, you can tailor your choice of compulsory elective subjects and specialist modules to suit your particular interests and talents. Potential majors include destination management, international hospitality management, modes of transport, tour operations and sales, customer and quality management and international tourism studies. We recommend that you select your majors with a view to the practical semester and your career aspirations.

For the practical semester (4th or 5th), you will spend 18 weeks in a company either in Germany or abroad and two weeks attending practically focused classes on campus. However, appropriate vocational training or at least 12 months’ relevant work experience in the industry can be counted instead.

Further details about the degree programme

practical semester

The degree programme in Tourism Management includes a semester of practice-based study aimed at giving you direct insights into the areas you intend to work in later on. The subject matter covered concerns more exacting tasks and working on demanding projects.

Semesters 4 or 5 are earmarked for the practical semester.

If you have already completed vocational training or at least one year of uninterrupted, relevant work experience in a field related to the degree programme, it is possible to proceed without an internship.
