Exciting news from IEAT at Kempten University of Applied Sciences! On 20 October 2026, we received the funding approval for our new research project:
RuralFlex – Living Lab for Decentralized Flexibility in Rural Distribution Networks: Dynamic Grid Tariffs, Local Voltage Control, Modelling and Real-World Operation
The project addresses key challenges facing rural low-voltage grids during the energy transition. By investigating dynamic grid tariffs, local voltage control and flexibility modelling, RuralFlex aims to explore practical ways to support grid stability as photovoltaic feed-in increases and demand from heat pumps and electric vehicles grows.
🏗️ The Energy Campus continues to grow! With RuralFlex, we are expanding our research activities in future energy systems and strengthening the link between applied research and real-world implementation.
🤝 A big thank you to our project partners AllgäuNetz, BATTR Energy, Octopus Energy, Q3 Energie and the Municipality of Wildpoldsried. Together with Hochschule Biberach, we look forward to developing practical solutions for tomorrow’s energy grids.
The teams of Katrin Schaber (Hochschule Biberach), Matthias Kühnbach and Michael Patt (Hochschule Kempten) will work together on the project, combining their expertise to develop practical solutions for the energy grids of the future.
Running from 2027 to 2030, RuralFlex is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) under the HAW-ForschungsPraxis funding programme.
We’re looking forward to what lies ahead! 🌱⚡
