Details about this course

During the foundation course (semesters 1–3), you will learn the basic principles of

  • Business administration
  • Law
  • Managing organisations and networks
  • Scientific methodology
  • Healthcare (from prevention through to rehabilitation)

In addition, you will complete a three-week nursing internship in a facility of your choice to gain initial experience and a first impression of the structures and processes characteristic of healthcare organisations.

On the advanced course (semesters 4–7), you will examine economic issues that prevail in the management of this sector, apply your specialist knowledge to specific case studies, and critically scrutinise the health sector.

You will spend the practical semester (5th) in a company or organisation of your choosing, in either the healthcare sector or the private economy in occupational health management (OHM), where you will work on your own project.

The company/organisation and the university will offer support and guidance.

The entire degree programme thrives on intensive exchange with long-standing practitioners with regard to applying theory in practice.

In the semesters 6 and 7, you will choose two majors from a range of options – currently:

  • Contract management
  • Patient-oriented care management
  • International healthcare

We will be happy to help you arrange spending time abroad and offer you the chance to study relevant subject matter at a partner university.

When the time comes to write your bachelor’s thesis, you will have the opportunity to prove the skills that you have acquired and to develop your own practical applications. Upon successfully completing this programme, the university of applied sciences will award you the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

NEW! Starting Winter Semester 2025/26: Dual* / cooperative studies in 2+3 days format!

This new option of splitting the week (2+3 days format) is the perfect match for combining theory with practical work. During the lecturing period, you will spend two days per week studying with us at university, and then working full-time during lecture-free periods and the practical semester.
You will receive a consistent level of pay throughout your entire degree programme!

Graduates from this degree programme can work in all areas of the healthcare sector or in the private sector in occupational health management (OHM).

Potential employers include acute and rehabilitation clinics, providers of out-patient and residential nursing services, manufacturers of pharmaceutical and medical products, health and social care insurance funds, care provision centres, practices, local authorities, associations, and many other companies, organisations and facilities.

The degree programme in Health Management also offers a semester abroad as part of the advanced course. Equivalents to module blocks 6 and 7 can generally be identified at foreign universities and counted as part of the programme. You can also spend your practical semester abroad with ease. The “International healthcare” major has been specifically designed as loosely and flexibly as possible to enable students to spend the sixth or seventh semester abroad.
