Welcome to the Language Centre

We offer language teaching for general compulsory elective modules and additional voluntary studies.

Our English Service conducts translations and proofreading for all staff engaged in teaching, administration or research.

Language levels

All language modules are aligned with the Common European Reference Framework for Languages, which identifies six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2). The different levels are described here. Our language modules can only be offered for certain levels according to demand.

The Module Handbook describes the modules in detail, including the existing level of language skills required (starting level) and the level to be attained once you have successfully completed the module (target level). You can find the current version of the Module Handbook for General Elective Studies and Languages at https://www.hs-kempten.de/en/centre-for-general-elective-studies-and-languages/general-elective-studies/general-elective-modules on the righthand side under Downloads.

The titles of General Elective modules also specify the target level, e.g. Spanish – Elementary A1.

Certain classes such as Business English Conversation focus on refining specific aspects of language, rather than improving the general level. In these cases, a starting level is specified but no target level.
