The successful path to graduation

In order to successfully reach graduation, students must study all the subjects specified in the relevant programme and examination regulations. You can find the examination regulations here.

Examinations are held during the examinations period (see list of dates). In addition, during the lecturing period you might be required to perform certain additional tasks (practical classes, written tests, or coursework) in order to be admitted to examinations. The tests for the general compulsory elective subjects are already conducted towards the end of the lecturing period, as a matter of course. Details of the precise dates are posted on noticeboards and in the central examination schedule, being announced by the university no later than two weeks before the start of the examinations period.

For further information – in particular about registering for exams, admission, deadlines, resits, etc. – please consult the General Examination Regulations at Kempten University of Applied Sciences. Further information can be provided by Academic Registry .

Incapacity to take an examination

  • Any student wishing to claim incapacity to take an examination on health grounds must present a medical certificate of incapacity to Academic Registry (N.B. not a certificate of incapacity to work – known colloquially as the “yellow chit”) without delay. As a matter of course, the medical examination must take place no later than the day of the examination itself.
  • The medical certificate must describe the current impediments caused by the illness that are relevant to the examination with regard to the student’s physical, psychological and/or emotional state from a medical perspective, as precisely and understandably as possible, so that the university can decide whether the student really was unfit to take the examination on the scheduled day. This certificate must conclusively show what hindered the student from taking the examination (e.g. bed rest was necessary; objective inability to take the examination without considerable discomfort or without aggravating the symptoms of the illness, inability to to go to the Examinations Office, etc.).
  • A medical diagnosis by a doctor is not required.
  • At the end of the certificate, the doctor should state whether, from a medical point of view, he/she assumes that the candidate is incapable of taking the examination.
  • In addition, a written application for an extension to the deadline (if necessary) must be submitted via Academic Registry. Submitting or presenting the medical certificate alone does not automatically result in an extension to a deadline.
  • Any medical certificates that are submitted/presented only after grades have been released will not be considered.
  • In the event of incapacity occurring during an examination, please report to the invigilator immediately and let them know. After the exam, or straight after potentially withdrawing from the examination that you have already commenced, you must immediately consult a doctor for medical confirmation of your incapacity (N.B. not a certificate of incapacity to work – known colloquially as the “yellow chit”). You must then submit this evidence (together with a written application for the grade to be cancelled) immediately to Academic Registry at Kempten University of Applied Sciences. If you don’t follow this procedure, the grade that you achieved will be recorded and can no longer be rescinded.

Help & questions
If you have any further questions, or if you feel that you need assistance, please contact Academic Registry during office opening hours.

Use of electronic devices during examinations

Any electronic devices that could be used to cheat in an examination (e.g. mobile phones, smartphones, smart watches and similar devices for exchanging data and/or communications) must be switched off and kept in a bag under the table. Any such devices that are switched on are fundamentally regarded as an attempt to cheat; the examination is thus deemed to have been failed. Decisions on such matters are made at the discretion of the supervisor and/or examiners.
