Resources not held in Kempten University library can be acquired from other libraries.

Movement of library holdings is regulated by the inter-library traffic regulation dated 1 December 2003.

You will require a borrower’s card for Kempten University Library (student Campus Card) to use this service.

How long do inter-library loans take?

Media ordered as inter-library loans generally take one to two weeks (although occasionally longer) to arrive at Kempten University Library, while copies of articles or excerpts from books take one to two days.

Loan period

Inter-library loans generally last four weeks, as long as the donor library doesn’t stipulate a shorter period.

Please always check the loan chit, which must remain in the book until it’s returned.

Inter-library loans can generally be renewed twice for a further four weeks, unless stated otherwise on the chit.

You can also find this information in the notification (sent to students’ university email address) you are sent by email as soon as your order arrives at Kempten University Library.

The donor library can specify reference-only access on library premises at Kempten University of Applied Sciences.

If a renewal is blocked by the donor library, you will be informed of the new due date.

How many inter-library loans can be ordered at the same time?

Students can order a maximum of 15 inter-library loans at the same time, while guest readers are limited to ten.

 

Book return

Books taken out on inter-library loan from Kempten University Library must always also be returned there.

 

What can I order as an interlibrary loan?

  • Books for loan
  • Copies of articles from periodicals or books

Exceptions:

  • Works that can be purchased in books shops for a low cost (less than 15 euros)
  • Works held in Kempten that are reference only or already on loan
  • Loose-leaf editions
  • DIN standards/VDI
  • Works of special value or in poor condition

Costs

  • Inter-library loans within Germany are free of charge.
  • Copies of articles are also provided free of charge.
