What a practical way to study!

In contrast to many other federal states, degree programmes at Bavarian universities of applied sciences include practical training. The practical semester gives you the opportunity to try out your skills in industry, business, administration, authorities or social facilities and to gain valuable hands-on experience in the world of work.

It is an essential component of your degree programme and counts towards the standard duration of studies. Your practical training is related to the requirements in the company or facility where your internship takes place, depending on your degree programme. If need be, the university can help you to find a suitable host company or facility.

The duration of the practical training element varies according to the degree programme. If you have any questions about getting practical training counted towards your degree, please ask Academic Registry.

You can consult the Statute on Practical Study Semesters under General Examinations Law. Click on the link for further information about internships abroad.

Internship support course

Practical support classes are offered at the university alongside internships. They are designed to interweave practice and theory and to evaluate and enhance your practical activities during that semester.

Please enquire in your faculty in good time about the precise procedure for your degree programme.

Students are generally required to attend the practical support classes and complete a formal assessment at the end of the training period in order to get their practical semester of study counted counted towards their degree programme. Examinations Committees can waive first practical semester in certain cases.

Getting organised

Academic Registry can provide details of suitable internships for practical semesters – by 1 February for the forthcoming summer semester or by 15 July for the winter semester. If you have difficulties finding an internship on your own, then Academic Registry the placement officer for your degree programme will be happy to assist.
