Research Priority Area 3: Production

Key focal points in this Research Priority Area include innovations under the banner of “Industry 4.0” – including end-to-end digitalisation of industrial production using information and communication technology (ICT) and/or artificial intelligence (AI).

One major objective is to network and optimise the entire value creation chain. This involves exploring key issues, tackling urgent challenges and developing feasible solutions in the following areas:

  • Automating and digitalising manufacturing processes
  • Information systems and data processing in production engineering
  • (Virtual) plant and production planning
  • Measuring Technology
  • Additive procedures
  • Forming technology
  • Punching/bending technology
  • Gearing technology
  • Microsystems technology
  • Materials engineering
  • Ceramic active elements
  • Friction welding and friction coating
  • Laser welding
  • Casting technology

Research in this Research Priority Area is interdisciplinary – incorporating the following specialisations:

  • Mechanical and production engineering
  • Materials science and materials engineering
  • Measuring technology and automation engineering
  • Computer science
  • Systems and electrical engineering
