Dual route to highly qualified staff

Would you like to incorporate Combined degree programmes  and/or programme with extended practice  (Bachelor’s degrees or Master’s degrees) into your company’s training / staff development programme? You can find useful information, such as selecting the appropriate mode of study, collaboration with the university, or how to register as a practice-based partner further down on this page.
 

We offer you the following options as a practice-based partner for dual / cooperative programmes with Kempten University of Applied Sciences:

  • Practice-based partner for combined degree programmes (bachelor’s degree programmes and vocational training)
  • programme with extended practice  (Bachelor’s master’s degree programmes with organised practical blocks)

You can act as a practice-based partner fore more than one mode of study or degree programme, noting your chosen combinations in our database. You can do this using the registration link for practice-based partners (see the section below: “Sign up as a practice-based partner”).

The criteria for collaborating on training with the university can be met by companies of all shapes and sizes.

  • You appoint an apprenticeship or internship, which is formalised by a collaboration contract between the trainee/student and the company.
     
  • You ensure the quality and range of the practical trainingcovering the subject matter required for the envisaged trade or profession.
     
  • You appoint a company contact or mentorto supervise or coach the student during the practical elements of their programme, communicate with Kempten University of Applied Sciences and, ideally, keep track of the student’s study and examinations schedule.
     
  • You coordinate collaboration with Kempten University of Applied Sciences. We will assist you in any way that we can throughout. The partnership is formalised by means of a collaboration agreement* between the company and Kempten University of Applied Sciences, with the aim of closely linking the sites of learning/training in terms of subject matter and organisation befitting of a dual study programme.
     *Collaboration agreements became a compulsory requirement for dual / cooperative practice-based partners with effect from 25 October 2020

“hochschule dual”

“hochschule dual” is the umbrella concept covering the 17 state-run and two church-run universities of applied sciences in Bavaria together with Ulm university of Applied Sciences. The central information gateway spans around 250 different degree programmes in total that can be studied in the locality. By now, more than 1,600 practice-based partners have hooked up with the network. Ensuring universal standards of quality, “hochschule dual” also acts as the service point for the various partners in the network – universities, vocational colleges and companies, not to mention prospective students and educational advisors.

The criteria for collaborating on training with the university can be met by companies of all shapes and sizes.

  • You offer an apprenticeship or internship, which is formalised by a collaboration contract between the trainee/student and the company.
     
  • You ensure the quality and range of the practical trainingcovering the subject matter required for the envisaged trade or profession. With regard to combined programmes, it is worth noting that the practical experience gained during training in the company significantly exceeds the level of a regular apprenticeship.
     
  • You appoint a company contact or mentorto supervise or coach the student during the practical elements of their programme, communicate with Kempten University of Applied Sciences and, ideally, keep track of the student’s study and examinations schedule.
     
  • You coordinate collaboration with Kempten University of Applied Sciences. We will assist you in any way that we can throughout. Sign up as a practice-based partner

The access code to register as a new practice-based partner on the portal for students of “hochschule dual” is: Registrierung Praxispartner

Registration process:

  • Please provide information about your company, including a named contact, on the registration form.
  • Once you have submitted this, you will be sent an automated email including a provisional password to access the backend of the student portal,
  • where you can manage your own profile (locations, brief company outline, contact details, opportunities for dual / cooperative programmes, vacancies, etc.).
  • You can set links to the degree programmes / dual study formats at our university that are relevant to you and indicate whether your company currently has any vacancies.
  • After creating these links, we will receive an automatic request to authorise your post. Once we have done this, your entry will go live in the student portal “Dual / cooperative study options” on our website.

Rules and information

Companies ascertain the key points of dual studies with Kempten University of Applied Sciences (e.g. level of practical training, access and admission requirements for degree programmes). This information can be communicated either orally or in writing.

Key rules regarding compulsory social security

Compulsory social security
The “Fourth Amendment to the Fourth Book of the Social Security Statute Book (SGB IV) and other Acts” abolished the different legal evaluation of social security for dual degree programmes with integrated training and internships.

From now on, all students on dual / cooperative programmes are subject to compulsory statutory pension, health and unemployment insurance. Previously, this only applied to combined degree programmes. This now also applies to programmes with extended practice, irrespective of how closely interlinked the stages at the university and practical blocks are. This enforces a standard regulation throughout Germany for all modes of dual study.

Child benefit
There is no longer means testing of income with regard to children aged between 18 and 25 for child benefit or tax-free allowance for children.
Parents will still receive full child benefit even if their child also earns income during his/her primary vocational training or first degree programme. 
The level of remuneration on a dual / cooperative programme has no effect on child benefit.
