Documents required

For all applicants

  • Completed application agreement (download from applications portal – DSTIP)
  • Eligibility for university
  • Curriculum vitae – bullet-point format with photo, signed
  • One-page personal statement (describing your personal and career aspirations, any plans for spending time abroad, also noting any delays in studying caused by corona)
  • Tax ID (This is an 11-digit number generally cited on your tax return or pay slip. Further information is available on the website for the “Bundeszentralamt für Steuern”.)
  • Evidence of activities outside school or not related to your subject (during the past 3 years)
    • Description of activities
    • Hours spent on activities and duration (e.g. 2 hours per week/5 hours per month, for five years)
    • Signed by the executive board or director of the organisation
  • If applicable – evidence of any particular successes or awards, periods spent abroad, internships
  • If applicable – evidence of first degree
  • If applicable – evidence of success in overcoming any obstacles during your education (evidence of educational progress) and/or of migration (copy of your birth certificate or ID)
  • If applicable – evidence of caring for your own children (copy of birth certificate/s)
  • If applicable – evidence of any disability (copy of disability ID)
  • If applicable – evidence of the loss of one or both parents (copy of death certificate/s)
  • If applicable – current BAföG award

Existing students

  • Certificate of enrolment at Kempten University of Applied Sciences
  • Credit certificates for previous semesters, citing average grade (including most recent winter semester)

Prospective students

  • If your certificate of eligibility for university (e.g. “Abitur”) hasn’t been issued yet – most recent end-of-year / half-year school report
  • If your enrolment certificate hasn’t been issued yet: Offer of a place on a degree programme

As soon as you receive your school-leaving certificate (eligibility for university), please email a copy to franziska.lenk@hs-kempten.de.

 

International applicants

  • Check/recognition of certificates by uni-assist (preliminary review documentation – “VPD”)
  • In addition, applicants from China, Vietnam or Mongolia must also submit: Certificate from the Academic Verification Office (“Akademische Prüfstelle” – APS)
  • Evidence of language proficiency
  • All other evidence should be submitted in German or English.

Application process

1. Register in the applications portal: DSTIP

  • Have you got all the required documents to hand? Then register in our applications portal – DSTIP .
  • The portal goes live on 29 April 2025 at 10 a.m.
  • Please make a careful note of your log-in details. You will need them if you’re awarded a bursary.

2. Apply online

  • Go through all the steps in the applications portal – DSTIP
  • You can pause the process at any point and come back later to continue where you left off.
  • Upload all the required documents.
  • Make sure you submit your application once you have filled everything in! You will then receive an automatic receipt confirming your application by email to the address that you have provided.

3. Await the decision

  • You will be notified of the decision on your application by the end of October.
  • In some cases, there might be a second-chance offer, e.g. if someone has to decline funding.

Notes for current bursary recipients (re-applying)

Application process

  • You can re-apply for a Deutschlandstipendium if your average grade remains at least 2.49 and you won’t have reached the standard duration of study next winter semester (Please check the information about the extension to the standard duration of study due to the pandemic!).
  • If you are due to complete your degree programme next winter semester, funding can continue only until you finish your final examination.
  • Please use your log-in details from last year and fill in the online application again.
  • Please ensure that you update the following documents:
    • Transcript of records (incl. grades from previous winter semester)
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Enrolment certificate
  • Evidence of voluntary work / contribution to society or children’s birth certificates – no need to resubmit

Instead of an introductory personal statement, please write an update about the time that you have been receiving this bursary,

possibly focusing on:

  • How has the Deutschlandstipendium helped you – with your studies, but also personally?
  • What did you think of the ceremony when you were awarded the bursary?
  • What contact did you have with your sponsor?
