Deutschlandstipendium – we’re on board!

Kempten University of Applied Sciences participates in the Deutschlandstipendium scheme, a funding programme launched by the Germany’s federal government.

High-performing students who also make a contribution to society can be awarded a scholarship worth 300 euros per month .

Financial and idealistic funding

Deutschlandstipendium awards are funded in equal part by the federal state and private sponsors, including companies, foundations, associations and individuals. Recipients of a Deutschlandstipendium become part of a growing network that can draw benefits from a wide range of contacts . You will already start getting to know your benefactors during the awards ceremony. In many cases, there are also further chances for interaction after that. In this sense, the scheme goes way beyond monetary funding.

Deutschlandstipendium – key facts

Financial awards

  • Recipients are awarded € 300 per month: € 150 each by the sponsor and the federal German state
  • Irrespective of your personal earnings or parents’ income
  • Doesn’t affect BAföG
  • Doesn’t need to be paid back

Duration of award

  • The award usually commences in the winter semester and in principle runs for two semesters.
  • In exceptional cases, however, it might only be for a single semester.
  • You can apply for an extension to the award if you continue to meet the criteria.

Applications period

  • Applications for Winter Semester 2026/27 and Summer Semester 2027 open on Wednesday, 15 April 2026 (10 a.m.) and close on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 (10 a.m.).
  • You can only apply online.
  • The applications portal goes live at the time cited on the opening day.

Target group

  • Prospective students due to enrol for the following winter semester
  • Existing students at Kempten University of Applied Sciences

Criteria

  • Strong academic performance
    • Prospective students: University entrance qualifications with average grade of at least 1.6 (strong “A” grade)
    • Existing students: Average grade of at least 2.49
    • Students commencing a second/mater’s degree: Final grade average for first degree of at least 2.49 (approx. good upper second class degree)
  • When the bursary commences, i.e. next winter semester, you must have at least 2 semesters of the standard duration of studies remaining.
(Please check the information regarding extensions to the standard duration of study due to the pandemic!)
  • Voluntary work and special personal achievements. These can take many forms – from willingness to assume responsibility through to overcoming obstacles in your personal circumstances.

Further details are provided below, under “Selection criteria”.

Selection criteria

Academic performance at school / university are a key marker in evaluating applicants’ aptitude and talent (see prerequisites).

However, the following criteria also apply:

  • Extra-curricular activities for worthy causes, such as voluntary work, societal, social, university-based or other political activity, or active involvement in religious societies, associations or clubs
  • Special personal or family circumstances, e.g.
    • Caring for your own children (particular as a single parent) or caring for close relatives
    • Family background
    • Migration background
    • Refugee or suffered political persecution
    • Illnesses or disabilities
    • Working in the family business
    • Employment alongside studying
  • Special achievements, awards or prizes (e.g. winning a “Jugend forscht” award for young scientists)
  • Previous employment and/or internships

You will need to provide supporting evidence – details on the Applications page under “Documents required”.

Exclusion criteria

  • It is not permissible to receive multiple awards at the same time, i.e. if you are in receipt of another (e.g. for talented students) that exceeds a monthly average of 30 euros. This will generally rule out recipients of book grants for talented students and anyone receiving the flat rate per semester on the Max Weber Programme. The double scholarship exclusion only applies to monetary funding. Idealistic support to promote talented students doesn’t count in this regard.
  • Doctoral students, students at a federal university of applied sciences, and students at a higher public administration collegewho are public-sector workers receiving candidates’ remuneration or similar activity-based remuneration from public funds cannot be awarded Deutschlandstipendium funding.
Other than that, public-sector employment – whether at universities or other public service institutions – presents no obstacle to applying for this kind of funding.
