Senate

Duties and members

The Bavarian Higher Education Act allocates the following tasks to Senate:

Deciding upon the legal texts to be issued by the university, unless otherwise stipulated;
Deciding upon matters crucial to research, promoting emerging scientific and artistic talent and fulfilling the equal opportunities remit;
Setting research priorities and deciding upon applications to set up special research areas, postgraduate programmes and the corresponding facilities;
Deciding upon proposals to create, modify or discontinue degree programmes;
Expressing opinions on proposals made by appointments committees to appoint professors;
Deciding upon nominations for honorary professors proposed by faculty boards;
Deciding upon bestowal of the title of honorary senator, honorary citizen or honorary member of the university;
Performing the duties of a Faculty Board if the university isn’t divided into faculties;
Deciding upon the confirmation of nominations of non-members of the university to University Council;
Participating in other matters in cases where this is envisaged by law or on the basis of a law.
