What are the acceptable forms of proof of English proficiency?

Master of Electrical Engineering
Recognised tests / minimum acceptable points in TOEFL/IELTS:
TOEFL tests (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

  • Paper-based TOEFL test (PBT): 525 points
  • Computer-based TOEFL test (CBT): 206 points
  • Internet-based TOEFL test (IBT): 75 points

IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 5.5 points

If you graduated from a programme taught in English or achieved a grade of at least 2.5 (“good”) in a regular compulsory course in English during your study programme, you do not need to submit proof of English proficiency.

Study programmes offered by the Professional School of Business and Technology (PSBT):
The PSBT offers courses run in German and English. For further information on language requirements, please contact the PBST directly: weiterbildung(at)hs-kempten.de 

Masters in Innovation, Entrepreneurialism and Leadership:
Proof of English level B2 in all component skills (e.g. Unicert, BEC Vantage, TeLC language certificate) or another form of proof of equivalent level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

All other degree programmes:  
No requirement for proof of English proficiency

No. The deadline for this is prior to registration as a student, or on certain degree programmes by the time you start your course.

Do I need knowledge of German for studying on the programme Master of Electrical Engineering?

Do I need knowledge of German for studying on the programme Master of Electrical Engineering?

Yes, you must be able to prove at least basic knowledge of German (level A1 GER). You can also provide this after you have started the programme, but at the latest within the first year of study.

Can I take the DSH or TestDaF examination at Kempten University of Applied Sciences?

Can I take the DSH or TestDaF examination at Kempten University of Applied Sciences?

It is not currently possible to take these examinations at our university. However, the Language Centre at Kempten University of Applied Sciences is planning to arrange this in future. You can further information about this on the webpages for General Elective Studies and Languages .

Can I learn German at Kempten University of Applied Sciences, including preparing for studying in German (DSH, TestDaF)?

Can I learn German at Kempten University of Applied Sciences, including preparing for studying in German (DSH, TestDaF)?

Students can take courses in “German as a Foreign Language” levels A1 to B1-2 at Kempten University of Applied Sciences. The level of language is ascertained using the onDaF test. Courses preparing students for studying in German are not currently offered.

Offers are posted online in the applications portal between the end of the first and (at the latest) the middle of the second week in August.

If you are applying for a free-access programme, you will be notified immediately upon receipt of your completed application online, as long as all the required supplementary evidence has been included.

Bachelor’s degree programmes:
If you have not received the certificate of your eligibility for university entrance by 15 July, you have until 27 July, at the latest, to append it to your application (preliminary certificates, e.g. FOS/BOS, are not acceptable). The deadline is the date that we receive your certificate, not that of the postmark! You can also hand your documents in by hand or deposit them in the outdoor letter box (Building V).

Master’s degree programmes:
We must have received your certificate by the end of your first semester of study, at the latest. 

Exceptions: For the degree programmes “Logistics” and “Social and Health Services Management”, you must present your certificate together with your application, i.e. no later than 15 January or 15 July.

You can see whether we have received your application according to status indicated, which will change. Please bear in mind that it isn’t possible for us to check this during the two weeks prior to the application deadline due to the high volume of applications. We therefore ask you to refrain from requesting this. 

Suggestion: If you send your documents to us with recorded delivery, you will get proof that the university has received them.
