Admission criteria
Applying for a bachelor’s degree programme

• Grammar school
• Technical college (“FOS”), having completed three years (13th grade) of advanced-level schooling, incl. two foreign languages
• Vocational college (“BOS”), having completed three years (13th grade) of advanced-level schooling, incl. two foreign languages

• Having completed two years (12th grade) at a technical college (“FOS”)
• Having completed two years (12th grade) at a vocational college (“BOS”)

• Having completed technical college (“FOS”) after two years (13th grade) of advanced-level schooling, incl. one foreign language
• Having completed vocational college (“BOS”) after two years (13th grade) of advanced-level schooling, incl. one foreign language

Did you qualify for admission to university abroad?

• Verification and validation of your certificate by uni-assist (preliminary review documentation: “Vorprüfungsdokumentation – VPD”). As of Summer Semester 2025, we only accept preliminary review documentation (“VPD”) that has been issued specifically for Kempten University of Applied Sciences. VPDs issued for other universities (of applied sciences) cannot be used for this purpose.
• In addition, applicants from China, Vietnam or Mongolia must also submit: Certificate from the Academic Verification Office (“Akademische Prüfstelle” – APS)
• Evidence of language proficiency

The requirements regarding language proficiency can be found in the international section.

• Masters craftsperson or
• College certificate-holder (e.g. technician or economist) or
• Academy certificate-holder (e.g. educator)

Important: All candidates with vocational qualifications must also complete a personal consultation with an academic advisor at our university of applied sciences. Please bring all the documents with you that are required to prove your eligibility to study for degree, such as Chamber of Industry/Commerce certificates, evidence of work, apprenticeship qualifications, and any detailed references from employers or interim reports. • Completed vocational training lasting at least two years and
• at least three years’ relevant full-time experience
• Training must be related to the degree programme: Recognised vocational qualifications

Please also bear in mind that you will have to take examinations worth at least 30 ECTS Credit Points within two semesters (“probationary studies”). If you fulfil this requirement, nothing stands in the way of you continuing your studies with us.

Admissions to the degree programme in Social Work is capped (restricted by “numerus clausus”).
Places on this degree programme are allocated via the “DoSV” process run by the foundation for university admissions athochschulstart.de.
This means that you must first register with hochschulstart.de before applying via our “MeinCampus” portal.

1. Register with “Hochschulstart” to get an applicant ID and authentication code (BID/BAN).

• Sign up online at hochschulstart.de
• Click the link that you’re sent to activate your account
• You will then be notified of your “BID” (applicant ID) and “BAN” (applicants’ authentication number).
• Keep a safe record of your log-in details (username + password, BID, BAN)

2. Registering and applying in MeinCampus

• Apply as described above in the online portal “MeinCampus” and also enter your BID and BAN where asked.

3. Coordination stage (16 July – 24 August 2026)

• Ranking (by 22 July 2026)
  • Log in to hochschulstart.de .
  • If you have applied for more than one degree programme covered by hochschulstart, they will be listed in the system.
  • If Kempten is your first choice, make sure that you specifically rank us first on hochschulstart.de; otherwise your applications will automatically be ranked according to the order in which you completed them (date stamp).
  • Important: Don’t forget to rank your choices!
• Offers will be made from early August – 25 August.
  • Check for offers in hochschulstart.de
  • This is also where you accept the offer of your choice.
  • Accepting an offer completes the process on hochschulstart.de, and all other offers and applications will be cancelled.
  • Important: You then need to enrol as a student using the portal at Kempten University of Applied Sciences.

4. If you didn’t get an offer from your first choice of university... (25 August – 30 September)

• Don’t do anything until 25 August, as all offers remain valid until then, even if you don’t respond.
• If you have received more than one offer, the one from your highest-ranked university will automatically be confirmed. It is still possible to actively accept offers – so rankings are really important to make sure you get to study where you want!
• If you haven’t received an offer by 25 August, you will be notified that your application has been rejected for each degree programme that you applied for via hochschulstart.de. If that happens, please get in touch with the
  Student Advisory Service at Kempten University of Applied Sciences to discuss alternatives and interim options.

• Admissions requirement: Fully trained, state-certified educator or remedial therapist; or proof of equivalent vocational training. Feel free to consult the guide to completing the form.

• First degree studied in English in a genuinely anglophone country (USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand),
• First degree studied in English in a country that is not genuinely anglophone (e.g. Syria) (→ requires: official confirmation by the Examinations Office, the Dean’s Office or the Degree Programme Coordinator or statement “medium of instruction: English” in the transcript of records or diploma supplement),
• Master’s degree studied in English in a genuinely anglophone country (e.g. USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand),
• Master’s degree studied in English in a country that is not genuinely anglophone (e.g. Syria) (requires: official confirmation by the Examinations Office, the Dean’s Office or the Degree Programme Coordinator or statement “medium of instruction: English” in the transcript of records or diploma supplement),
• First degree studied in English and a master’s degree studied in English in a country that is not genuinely anglophone (e.g. Syria) (→ requires: official confirmation by the Examinations Office, the Dean’s Office or the Degree Programme Coordinator or statement “medium of instruction: English” in the transcript of records or diploma supplement),
• Citizenship of a country with English as an official language (e.g. Nigeria, South Africa),
• IB Diploma (anglophone section) from an anglophone school,
• German or Luxemburg “Abitur” – note on the school leaving certificate indicating the level of English proficiency in accordance with CEFR,
• Austrian “Matura”,
• Native language English.

German: Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

• Deutsche Sprachdiplom Stufe 1 (Stufe GER A2/B1)
• Deutsche Sprachdiplom Stufe 2 (Stufe GER B2/C1)

If eligibility for university was earned in German, this counts as evidence of the required proficiency in both languages.
Your application requires evidence of proficiency in English. You can only enrol after providing the stipulated proof of language proficiency.
 

In order to enrol, you must have a contract for vocational training with one of our co-operative partners, although you allowed until 31 December in the first semester of study to submit this. Until providing this evidence, your enrolment will remain provisional. Did you qualify for admission to university abroad? If so, then we also require evidence of adequate language proficiency in German, i.e. level B2 (e.g. TestDaF levels IV, DSH-2, etc.).
