Application process for partner universities

  1. Kempten University of Applied Sciences
  2. International
  3. Outgoing
  4. Studying abroad
  5. Application process

Once you have followed the instructions under Studying abroad and used the search engine to find one or two suitable partner universities, you can commence the application process,

which involves two stages.
First, you apply to the International Office for us to check whether you meet the criteria for studying abroad for a semester and to allocate you a place as you wish. After that, you can enrol or apply for a place at the partner university.

Stage 1:

Apply with the International Office for an exchange placement

  1. Log in to the Mobility Online applications portal using your university ID
  2. Fill out the application form
  3. Click on the registration linksent to you via email.

You can then simply follow the online instructions as you go along.

You will need to upload the following documents in the online applications portal:

  • Personal statement in German
  • Curriculum vitae in English
  • English transcript of records (You can get this in the SB-Portal)
  • Planned courses
(Provisional indication of the courses you would like to take at the partner university. You need to download the form during the registration process, fill in the details, and then upload it again.)

Please upload all your documents as PDF files .

If you have found more than one potential partner university, you can indicate your first and second choices. Should you not secure a place at your preferred university, you will automatically be placed at your second choice. If you indicate a second choice, please also submit a personal statement and your planned subjects for that, too.

Incidentally, places are not allocated on a “first come, first served” basis. You have until the deadline for applications to complete your submission and upload all the required documents. Allocations are only decided after the deadline.

    Application deadlines
15 Dec – 31 Janto go abroad for the winter semester
1 July – 15 Augto go abroad for the summer semester

Should you happen to miss a deadline, we re-open the applications portal to allocate any spare places from 1  to 15 March (for the winter semester) and from 1 to 15 October (for the summer semester).

    What happens next?

    • After the International Office has checked your documents and eligibility, you will be generally accepted to study abroad.
    • Should the number of applications exceed the places available for your chosen partner university, then the International Office will conduct a selection process, considering, amongst other things, students’ academic performance so far, their reasons for studying abroad (particularly in relation to their studies in Kempten), voluntary activities, and possibly personal circumstances.
    • Once we have informed applicants of the outcome of the selection process, we will nominate you to the partner university .

    Stage 2:

Apply / Register at the partner university

At this point, you will need to formally apply to the partner university. You will either be sent the relevant information directly by the university in question, or you can find it on the info sheet (using the search engine).

Once you are accepted by the partner university, they will send you a letter of confirmation/enrolment.

    And then?

    • To carry on preparing your semester abroad, please work your way through the workflow in our Mobility Online portal .
    • This dialogue system displays all the completed steps in green boxes, with the to-do list marked in red. If you cannot proceed past a certain point in the workflow, this means that you need to wait for a response from the International Office, which will either be marked in the portal itself or sent to you via email. As soon as the relevant box turns green, you can continue. You need to complete every data entry by clicking on the button to confirm.

If you encounter any technical issues, the International Office will be happy to help.
